There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that contains numerous comforts on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
