There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
