There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains many luxuries on top of the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
