There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that features a number of comforts in addition to the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
